In 2003, the Department of Labor (DOL), in cooperation with the Social Security Administration, jointly established a new position, the Disability Program Navigator (DPN) in DOL’s One-Stop Career Centers. The DPN program is now supporting over 420 DPNs in 42 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The DPNs guide One-Stop Career Centers staff in helping persons with disabilities access and navigate the complex provisions of various programs that impact their ability to gain and retain employment.
Since 2003, the DPNs have developed and implemented a plethora of effective promising practices that expand the capacity of the One-Stop Career Center system to serve customers with disabilities (and other multiple employment challenges) and promote effective and more meaningful employment of people with disabilities.
This section identifies the successful strategies and promising practices; and provides information, resources, and contact information to assist with replication throughout the workforce system.
