Washington Post Reports: SSA Disability Backlog is the Largest in the Federal Government

The Washington Post front page article on Sunday, October 19, 2014, profiled the huge backlog of disability claims and the Administrative Law Judge process that adjudicates these appeals.
The Washington Post reports the SSA disability appeals backlog is now 990,399 cases behind with another 663,000 applications and 170,000 appeals pending. SSA currently supports 1,445 Administrative Law Judges.
