Posted by Alexandra Kielty - On October 22, 2014 (EST)
The Department of Labor's (DOL) Employment and Training Administration (ETA) issued Training and Employment Notice 12-14 on October 17, 2014, to inform the public workforce system and employers about affirmative efforts by employers, employer organizations, and workforce agencies to increase economic competitiveness by tapping into the talent pool of long-term unemployed individuals, which includes many qualified, experienced, and skilled workers. ETA is hosting a webinar to share this information on Friday, October 24, 2014, 1:00 to 2:00 PM, EST.
DOL is encouraging the public workforce system to assist these individuals by:
1) Partnering with employers to implement promising human resources practices; 2) Targeting and espanding work-based learning models, such as on-the-job training;
3) Offering specialized services, such as financial counseling, behavioral health counseling, and enhanced job search assistance; and
4) Boosting job seeker outreach and engagement strategies to better reach the long-term unemployed.
