Friday, January 30, 2015, is Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)Awareness Day. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) encourages communities to advertise and encourage low income individuals to consider their eligibility for EITC based on their earning less that $52,427. They have also developed and made available a number of tools and resources to assist in this effort.
The EITC allows up to $6,143 in funds returned to those eligible individuals. Increasing awareness is critical because to get the credit, individuals must file and claim it.
EITC Central is an excellent source for ready-to-use news releases, and tweets. You’ll also find local statistics, key messages, fast facts, newsletter and web articles, tips for running an EITC campaign, and other basic marketing and communication materials.
EITC can be a boost to individuals, families and communities. Many may qualify for EITC but don’t know it, such as childless workers, people with disabilities, people who speak English as a second language, and non-traditional families like grandparents raising their grandchildren.
